Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Real Estate and REITs sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.26%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Chartwell Retirement Residences (TO:CSH_u), which rose 6.09% or 0.67 points to trade at 11.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Nevsun Resources Ltd. (TO:NSU) added 5.90% or 0.270 points to end at 4.850 and Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TO:TXG) was up 5.56% or 0.060 points to 1.140 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trilogy Energy Corp (TO:TET), which fell 6.09% or 0.40 points to trade at 6.17 at the close. Enerflex Ltd. (TO:EFX) declined 4.06% or 0.59 points to end at 13.95 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd. (TO:BIR) was down 3.35% or 0.26 points to 7.49.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 714 to 683 and 183 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 8.97% to 13.39.
Gold for August delivery was up 2.09% or 24.60 to $1201.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.80% or 0.48 to hit $60.81 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.50% or 0.32 to trade at $64.19 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 0.8176, while CAD/EUR fell 0.26% to 0.7191.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.30% at 94.20.
