Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Husky Energy Inc . (TO:HSE), which rose 6.71% or 1.02 points to trade at 16.21 at the close. Meanwhile, Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) added 6.21% or 0.220 points to end at 3.760 and Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) was up 6.18% or 0.220 points to 3.780 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TO:TRQ), which fell 6.15% or 0.280 points to trade at 4.270 at the close. Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TO:LIF) declined 4.00% or 0.58 points to end at 13.91 and HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) was down 3.63% or 0.23 points to 6.10.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 657 to 490 and 142 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.44% to 14.43.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.57% or 7.85 to $1364.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 4.10% or 1.62 to hit $41.13 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.88% or 1.62 to trade at $43.42 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.30% to 0.7650, while CAD/EUR rose 1.00% to 0.6862.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.49% at 95.49.
