Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Materials and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.10%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which rose 10.56% or 0.19 points to trade at 1.99 at the close. Meanwhile, West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT) added 7.35% or 3.00 points to end at 43.82 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) was up 6.95% or 0.79 points to 12.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Husky Energy Inc . (TO:HSE), which fell 9.18% or 1.61 points to trade at 15.93 at the close. Canadian National Railway Company (TO:CNR) declined 5.07% or 4.20 points to end at 78.57 and Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TO:LIF) was down 3.48% or 0.49 points to 13.60.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 475 to 334 and 106 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.44% to 16.09.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.36% or 4.45 to $1244.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.26% or 1.39 to hit $44.03 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.93% or 1.30 to trade at $45.62 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.52% to 0.7929, while CAD/EUR rose 0.31% to 0.7022.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 94.53.
