Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Staples, REITs and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.10%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC), which rose 7.88% or 1.89 points to trade at 25.89 at the close. Meanwhile, First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) added 7.53% or 0.44 points to end at 6.28 and Pan American Silver Corp. (TO:PAA) was up 5.53% or 0.61 points to 11.64 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Amaya Inc (TO:AYA), which fell 5.33% or 1.72 points to trade at 30.55 at the close. Capstone Mining Corp. (TO:CS) declined 4.76% or 0.060 points to end at 1.200 and Aecon Group Inc. (TO:ARE) was down 4.50% or 0.59 points to 12.53.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 821 to 596 and 192 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 9.42% to 15.34.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.51% or 6.00 to $1185.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.55% or 0.33 to hit $60.07 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.18% or 0.76 to trade at $63.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.8125, while CAD/EUR fell 0.06% to 0.7203.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 95.07.
