Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Financials, Electric Power and Public Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 4.87%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3), which rose 1.03% or 0.24 points to trade at 23.49 at the close. Meanwhile, Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 0.87% or 0.01 points to end at 1.16 and Cyrela Brazil Realty SA (SA:CYRE3) was up 0.68% or 0.05 points to 7.35 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4), which fell 21.05% or 1.40 points to trade at 5.25 at the close. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 9.47% or 0.90 points to end at 8.60 and Vale SA (SA:VALE5) was down 9.38% or 0.68 points to 6.57.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 231 to 76 and 8 ended unchanged.
Shares in Vale SA (SA:VALE3) fell to 5-year lows; losing 9.47% or 0.90 to 8.60. Shares in Vale SA (SA:VALE5) fell to 5-year lows; down 9.38% or 0.68 to 6.57.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 8.85% to 48.97.
Gold for April delivery was up 0.10% or 1.10 to $1129.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 5.49% or 1.74 to hit $29.89 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 1.70% or 2.00 to trade at $119.62 .
USD/BRL was up 0.68% to 3.9899, while EUR/BRL rose 0.96% to 4.3568.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.21% at 98.84.
