Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Electric Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 2.62%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3), which rose 1.45% or 0.13 points to trade at 9.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3) added 0.96% or 0.25 points to end at 26.30 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) was up 0.93% or 0.13 points to 14.13 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which fell 15.44% or 0.23 points to trade at 1.26 at the close. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 12.37% or 0.12 points to end at 0.85 and Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) was down 11.64% or 0.49 points to 3.72.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 218 to 69 and 25 ended unchanged.
Shares in Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) fell to 5-year lows; down 12.37% or 0.12 to 0.85.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.96% to 55.63.
Gold for April delivery was up 4.38% or 52.30 to $1246.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.58% or 0.43 to hit $27.02 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 1.57% or 1.80 to trade at $113.03 .
USD/BRL was up 1.71% to 3.9947, while EUR/BRL rose 2.03% to 4.5267.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 95.60.
