Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.98%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Oi SA (SA:OIBR3), which rose 9.76% or 0.08 points to trade at 0.90 at the close. Meanwhile, JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) added 3.58% or 0.32 points to end at 9.25 and Lojas Americanas SA (SA:LAME4) was up 2.54% or 0.37 points to 14.93 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which fell 10.38% or 0.27 points to trade at 2.33 at the close. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 9.18% or 1.23 points to end at 12.17 and Vale SA (SA:VALE5) was down 7.51% or 1.15 points to 14.16.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 205 to 112 and 19 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.02% to 43.41.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.74% or 9.15 to $1239.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.69% or 0.74 to hit $42.99 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 0.45% or 0.55 to trade at $123.80 .
USD/BRL was down 0.45% to 3.5499, while EUR/BRL fell 0.16% to 3.9968.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.35% at 94.78.
