Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Real Estate and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.95% to hit a new 5-year low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which rose 0.86% or 0.05 points to trade at 5.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) added 0.71% or 0.18 points to end at 25.43 and EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) was up 0.69% or 0.04 points to 5.87 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Oi SA (SA:OIBR4), which fell 7.59% or 0.24 points to trade at 2.92 at the close. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 7.47% or 1.34 points to end at 16.59 and Vale SA (SA:VALE5) was down 7.37% or 1.05 points to 13.19.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 209 to 111 and 6 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 7.03% to 59.38 a new 6-months high.
Gold for December delivery was down 1.22% or 14.00 to $1131.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.71% or 1.24 to hit $44.46 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 3.08% or 3.77 to trade at $118.72 .
USD/BRL was up 3.32% to 4.1043, while EUR/BRL rose 3.63% to 4.6112.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 96.13.
