Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Real Estate, Financials and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.87%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which rose 9.41% or 0.68 points to trade at 7.91 at the close. Meanwhile, Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) added 4.35% or 0.26 points to end at 6.24 and Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) was up 2.82% or 0.69 points to 25.14 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3), which fell 7.28% or 1.07 points to trade at 13.63 at the close. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) declined 6.75% or 2.92 points to end at 40.35 and BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA:BRML3) was down 6.70% or 1.24 points to 17.28.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 179 to 98 and 3 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.39% to 32.17.
Gold for June delivery was up 2.29% or 26.90 to $1201.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.78% or 0.45 to hit $56.70 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 3.21% or 4.55 to trade at $137.22 .
USD/BRL was down 1.12% to 2.9178, while EUR/BRL fell 1.01% to 3.1764.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 96.89.
