Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumption, Real Estate and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.43%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6), which rose 3.63% or 0.31 points to trade at 8.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 2.00% or 0.07 points to end at 3.57 and Banco Santander Brasil SA (SA:SANB11) was up 1.81% or 0.29 points to 16.29 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Oi SA (SA:OIBR4), which fell 9.09% or 0.44 points to trade at 4.40 at the close. Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) declined 7.81% or 0.98 points to end at 11.56 and Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) was down 6.83% or 0.97 points to 13.23.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 164 to 129 and 12 ended unchanged.
Shares in Oi SA (SA:OIBR4) fell to 5-year lows; down 9.09% or 0.44 to 4.40. Shares in Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) fell to 52-week lows; losing 6.83% or 0.97 to 13.23.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.83% to 37.72.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.87% or 9.50 to $1085.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.87% or 1.82 to hit $45.30 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 1.47% or 1.85 to trade at $123.88 .
USD/BRL was up 0.94% to 3.4548, while EUR/BRL rose 0.62% to 3.7832.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.29% at 97.60.
