Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Consumption and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.35%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Tim Participacoes SA (SA:TIMP3), which rose 8.00% or 0.60 points to trade at 8.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) added 4.54% or 0.56 points to end at 12.90 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) was up 3.59% or 0.09 points to 2.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vale SA (SA:VALE3), which fell 11.17% or 2.43 points to trade at 19.33 at the close. Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) declined 9.10% or 3.79 points to end at 37.86 and Vale SA (SA:VALE5) was down 8.21% or 1.37 points to 15.31.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 167 to 118 and 25 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.82% to 42.55 a new 3-months low.
Gold for June delivery was down 1.22% or 15.20 to $1235.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.39% or 0.60 to hit $43.78 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.67% or 0.83 to trade at $123.25 .
USD/BRL was up 0.84% to 3.5682, while EUR/BRL rose 0.37% to 4.0086.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.43% at 95.03.
