Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Basic Materials and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.33%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which rose 3.12% or 0.26 points to trade at 8.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 3.02% or 0.090 points to end at 3.070 and Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) was up 2.86% or 1.43 points to 51.48 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vale SA (SA:VALE3), which fell 4.74% or 0.90 points to trade at 18.09 at the close. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 4.02% or 0.44 points to end at 10.50 and Cyrela Brazil Realty SA (SA:CYRE3) was down 3.88% or 0.43 points to 10.65.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 195 to 93 and 23 ended unchanged.
Shares in Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.12% or 0.26 to 8.60.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.01% to 33.15.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.40% or 5.45 to $1352.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.99% or 1.28 to hit $41.49 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 1.66% or 2.34 to trade at $138.98 .
USD/BRL was down 0.52% to 3.1282, while EUR/BRL rose 0.02% to 3.4968.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.51% at 95.57.
