Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumption, Industrials and Electric Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.79% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Vale SA (SA:VALE3), which rose 2.19% or 0.31 points to trade at 14.44 at the close. Meanwhile, Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 2.12% or 0.66 points to end at 31.85 and Banco Santander Brasil SA (SA:SANB11) was up 2.04% or 0.36 points to 18.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which fell 4.92% or 0.09 points to trade at 1.74 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4) declined 4.49% or 0.40 points to end at 8.50 and JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) was down 4.09% or 0.45 points to 10.55.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 183 to 123 and 32 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.29% to 43.27.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.27% or 3.40 to $1249.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.64% or 0.31 to hit $48.10 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 2.00% or 2.50 to trade at $122.33 .
USD/BRL was up 0.34% to 3.5747, while EUR/BRL rose 0.41% to 4.0106.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 95.25.
