Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Electric Power, Consumption and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.63%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which rose 4.47% or 0.56 points to trade at 13.08 at the close. Meanwhile, Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 3.34% or 1.04 points to end at 32.16 and Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) was up 3.12% or 0.77 points to 25.42 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Lojas Americanas SA (SA:LAME4), which fell 6.01% or 0.98 points to trade at 15.32 at the close. Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) declined 5.73% or 0.45 points to end at 7.40 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4) was down 4.64% or 0.45 points to 9.24.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 173 to 145 and 20 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 13.82% to 47.77 a new 1-month low.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.06% or 0.80 to $1233.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.89% or 0.37 to hit $41.34 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 0.90% or 1.12 to trade at $125.97 .
USD/BRL was up 1.75% to 3.6122, while EUR/BRL rose 2.03% to 4.0866.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 94.46.
