Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Consumption sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.61% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which rose 4.06% or 0.80 points to trade at 20.51 at the close. Meanwhile, CETIP SA - Mercados Organizados (SA:CTIP3) added 3.87% or 1.32 points to end at 35.40 and Multiplan SA (SA:MULT3) was up 3.28% or 1.56 points to 49.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which fell 5.65% or 0.36 points to trade at 6.01 at the close. Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) declined 4.70% or 0.64 points to end at 12.98 and Oi SA (SA:OIBR4) was down 4.44% or 0.26 points to 5.59.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 155 to 142 and 6 ended unchanged.
Shares in Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) fell to 5-year lows; down 5.65% or 0.36 to 6.01. Shares in CETIP SA - Mercados Organizados (SA:CTIP3) rose to all time highs; up 3.87% or 1.32 to 35.40.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.24% to 29.62.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.34% or 4.00 to $1167.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 4.34% or 2.58 to hit $56.88 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 3.20% or 4.20 to trade at $126.97 .
USD/BRL was up 1.24% to 3.1484, while EUR/BRL rose 0.39% to 3.4803.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.76% at 96.48.
