Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 2.51% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Oi SA (SA:OIBR4), which rose 10.76% or 0.34 points to trade at 3.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) added 8.59% or 0.75 points to end at 9.48 and EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) was up 7.18% or 0.42 points to 6.27 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which fell 3.38% or 0.64 points to trade at 18.32 at the close. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) declined 2.82% or 1.53 points to end at 52.79 and JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) was down 0.55% or 0.09 points to 16.41.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 221 to 96 and 7 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 5.95% to 49.34.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.49% or 16.40 to $1119.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 5.95% or 2.65 to hit $47.24 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.65% or 0.78 to trade at $117.67 .
USD/BRL was down 0.73% to 3.8333, while EUR/BRL fell 0.63% to 4.3254.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.27% at 95.50.
