Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Public Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 1.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Vale SA (SA:VALE5), which rose 9.81% or 1.47 points to trade at 16.46 at the close. Meanwhile, Vale SA (SA:VALE3) added 9.70% or 1.72 points to end at 19.45 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) was up 8.06% or 0.85 points to 11.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Oi SA (SA:OIBR4), which fell 3.92% or 0.25 points to trade at 6.12 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) declined 2.89% or 0.56 points to end at 18.81 and PDG Realty SA (SA:PDGR3) was down 1.85% or 0.010 points to 0.540.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 161 to 110 and 6 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 2.96% to 32.80 a new 1-month low.
Gold for June delivery was down 1.39% or 16.70 to $1186.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.57% or 0.32 to hit $56.29 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 0.60% or 0.85 to trade at $143.12 .
USD/BRL was down 0.84% to 3.0083, while EUR/BRL fell 0.97% to 3.2266.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 98.23.
