Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Financials and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.02%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3), which rose 4.95% or 0.86 points to trade at 18.24 at the close. Meanwhile, Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) added 4.38% or 0.76 points to end at 18.12 and Cia Paranaense de Energia (SA:CPLE6) was up 4.25% or 1.08 points to 26.48 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which fell 2.66% or 0.26 points to trade at 9.50 at the close. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 1.95% or 0.04 points to end at 2.01 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was down 1.48% or 0.030 points to 2.000.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 152 to 120 and 33 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.84% to 43.27.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.40% or 5.15 to $1283.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.79% or 1.82 to hit $46.19 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 1.01% or 1.40 to trade at $139.72 .
USD/BRL was down 0.27% to 3.4630, while EUR/BRL fell 0.54% to 3.8899.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 94.71.
