Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.66%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Marcopolo SA (SA:POMO4), which rose 5.78% or 0.13 points to trade at 2.38 at the close. Meanwhile, Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) added 3.61% or 0.74 points to end at 21.25 and ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) was up 3.08% or 0.04 points to 1.34 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which fell 3.90% or 0.28 points to trade at 6.90 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 3.33% or 0.20 points to end at 5.81 and Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (SA:GOLL4) was down 3.23% or 0.23 points to 6.89.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 154 to 128 and 6 ended unchanged.
Shares in Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) fell to 5-year lows; down 3.90% or 0.28 to 6.90. Shares in Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) fell to 5-year lows; down 3.33% or 0.20 to 5.81. Shares in Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (SA:GOLL4) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.23% or 0.23 to 6.89.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.91% to 29.35.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.29% or 3.40 to $1165.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.72% or 0.41 to hit $56.55 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $126.97 .
USD/BRL was down 1.69% to 3.0953, while EUR/BRL fell 1.43% to 3.4310.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.20% at 96.28.
