Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.56%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3), which rose 5.09% or 0.31 points to trade at 6.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) added 4.68% or 0.78 points to end at 17.45 and Vale SA (SA:VALE5) was up 4.50% or 0.60 points to 13.92 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3), which fell 10.04% or 0.72 points to trade at 6.45 at the close. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 6.87% or 0.23 points to end at 3.12 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was down 5.87% or 0.23 points to 3.69.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 164 to 146 and 4 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.13% to 53.50.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.18% or 2.00 to $1113.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.16% or 0.07 to hit $45.02 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.12% or 0.15 to trade at $121.03 .
USD/BRL was up 1.33% to 4.0001, while EUR/BRL rose 1.38% to 4.4733.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 96.34.
