Investing.com – Belgium stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Beverage, Pharma & Bio-technology and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 lost 2.60% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the BEL 20 were NV Bekaert SA (BRU:BEKB), which rose 0.40% or 0.10 points to trade at 26.20 at the close. Meanwhile, KBC (BRU:KBC) fell 0.48% or 0.290 points to end at 59.630 and Umicore NV (BRU:UMI) was down 0.49% or 0.22 points to 44.89 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Delhaize Group (BRU:DELB), which fell 8.31% or 6.75 points to trade at 74.48 at the close. UCB (BRU:UCB) declined 4.36% or 2.92 points to end at 64.12 and Anheuser-Busch Inbev SA (BRU:ABI) was down 3.80% or 4.30 points to 108.80.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Brussels Stock Exchange by 141 to 36 and 3 ended unchanged.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.29% or 3.50 to $1210.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.96% or 1.69 to hit $58.75 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.25% or 1.46 to trade at $66.09 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.74% to 1.1172, while EUR/GBP rose 0.80% to 0.7216.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.37% at 94.87.
