Investing.com – Belgium stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Utilities, Telecoms and Construction & Materials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 declined 0.52%.

The best performers of the session on the BEL 20 were DIeteren SA (BRU:IETB), which rose 1.30% or 0.450 points to trade at 34.955 at the close. Meanwhile, UCB (BRU:UCB) added 0.50% or 0.35 points to end at 70.20 and Ackermans V.Haaren (BRU:ACKB) was up 0.38% or 0.50 points to 131.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Engie SA (PARIS:ENGIE), which fell 3.39% or 0.49 points to trade at 13.95 at the close. Proximus NV (BRU:PROX) declined 2.17% or 0.67 points to end at 30.19 and Elia (BRU:ELI) was down 1.30% or 0.565 points to 42.935.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Brussels Stock Exchange by 92 to 66 and 4 ended unchanged.

Shares in Engie SA (PARIS:ENGIE) fell to all time lows; falling 3.39% or 0.49 to 13.95.

Gold for December delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1114.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $45.08 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.90% or 0.43 to trade at $47.94 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.22% to 1.1200, while EUR/GBP fell 0.04% to 0.7386.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 96.17.
