Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Resources and Metals & Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.20% to hit a new 3-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Qantas Airways Ltd (ASX:QAN), which rose 5.59% or 0.180 points to trade at 3.400 at the close. Meanwhile, Vocus Fpo (ASX:VOC) added 5.09% or 0.290 points to end at 5.990 and Ten Network Holdings Ltd (ASX:TEN) was up 4.76% or 0.010 points to 0.220 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Arrium Ltd (ASX:ARI), which fell 5.26% or 0.010 points to trade at 0.180 at the close. Santos Ltd (ASX:STO) declined 4.87% or 0.440 points to end at 8.590 and Sundance Energy Australia Ltd (ASX:SEA) was down 4.58% or 0.030 points to 0.625.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 530 to 448 and 173 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.50% to 19.212.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.25% or 2.90 to $1185.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.50% or 0.29 to hit $58.65 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.32% or 0.21 to trade at $65.33 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.05% to 0.7911, while AUD/JPY rose 0.24% to 94.90.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.27% at 94.99.
