Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Gold, Energy and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.06%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Monadelphous Group Ltd (AX:MND), which rose 4.62% or 0.440 points to trade at 9.970 at the close. Meanwhile, Medibank Private Ltd (AX:MPL) added 3.68% or 0.110 points to end at 3.100 and JB Hi-Fi Ltd (AX:JBH) was up 3.33% or 0.820 points to 25.410 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were St Barbara Ltd (AX:SBM), which fell 5.41% or 0.165 points to trade at 2.885 at the close. Isentia Group Ltd (AX:ISD) declined 5.23% or 0.170 points to end at 3.080 and Seven West Media Ltd (AX:SWM) was down 3.88% or 0.043 points to 1.052.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 573 to 498 and 323 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.51% to 15.099.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1326.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.16% or 0.07 to hit $43.20 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.29% or 0.13 to trade at $45.26 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.71% to 0.7523, while AUD/JPY fell 0.65% to 78.53.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.29% at 97.00.
