Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals & Mining, Resources and Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.33%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Worleyparsons Ltd (ASX:WOR), which rose 6.19% or 0.400 points to trade at 6.860 at the close. Meanwhile, Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (ASX:FMG) added 5.90% or 0.110 points to end at 1.975 and AWE Ltd (ASX:AWE) was up 5.80% or 0.040 points to 0.730 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were CSR Ltd (ASX:CSR), which fell 6.21% or 0.180 points to trade at 2.720 at the close. Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC) declined 4.48% or 0.045 points to end at 0.960 and Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:EVN) was down 4.41% or 0.060 points to 1.300.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 496 to 430 and 122 ended unchanged.
Shares in CSR Ltd (ASX:CSR) fell to 52-week lows; losing 6.21% or 0.180 to 2.720.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 3.42% to 23.553.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.04% or 0.40 to $1138.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.17% or 0.08 to hit $46.18 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.10% or 0.05 to trade at $49.30 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.47% to 0.7117, while AUD/JPY rose 0.33% to 85.59.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 96.18.
