WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump told the New York Times he would consider stopping U.S. oil purchases from Saudi Arabia unless the Saudi government provide troops to fight Islamic State.

Trump's comment on Friday was included in a lengthy foreign policy interview published by the newspaper on Saturday and came in response to a question about whether, if elected president, he would halt oil purchases from U.S. allies unless they provided on-the-ground forces against Islamic State.

"The answer is, probably yes," Trump said, according to a transcript.

Trump has said the United States should be reimbursed by the countries it provides protection, even those with vast resources such as Saudi Arabia, a top oil exporter.

"And yet, without us, Saudi Arabia wouldn't exist for very long," Trump told the Times.

Trump also named in the interview retired Major General Gary Harrell, Major General Bert Mizusawa and retired Rear Admiral Charles Kubic as additional foreign policy advisors to the five named earlier this week who were criticized as obscure.

Trump has faced questions about his reluctance to reveal who was advising his campaign. He told the Times he was willing to rethink traditional U.S. alliances should he become president.

Disgusting manipulation, it is! Currently American Petroleum Institute relies on the expectations of the decreasing stocks of oil inevitably leading to higher oil price and weakening of American dollar. . It relates economy but unfortunately there's also political agenda always involved into it making things less predictable in economy. I was somewhat shocked when Donald Trump openly threatened to stop American oil purchases from Saudi Arabia unless it provides its troops to fight Islamic State. "Without us Saudi Arabia wouldn't exist for long". Brazen Yankees may boast their might. But is it true to life or are those just empty threats? Is SA so much dependent on the USA? . I doubt that dates matter much as oil trade substitution. . .
Another smart move from The Donald. . Why should the US first thing buy oil from Middle Eastern oppressive regimes while local producers sell at a loss just to get rid of the stockpiles...?
Mr. Trump... Saudi Arabia has a history to survive on only a commodity called Dates. Crude Oil and later on gold is Allah's gift to Islam and KSA. I think the hegemony of US will dissolved if they go this way. Do not try to hurt the sentiments of Islam and muslims all across globe. Its not you who has made KSA. Its Allah has made them developed. Try to be in control. I understand the terrorism from ISIS but do not threat to KSA or your so called industrial development of US will be halted. Be in limits. Islam will dominate the world by its fair policy. Get it. Don't be that arrogant. Try to be play a politics of synergy, so that everybody is benefitted.
Allah lol, have you ever seen him? US does not need Saudi oil! You need the US protecting you though!
The said history of survival well may repeat soon
