Investing.com - Retail sales in Canada unexpectedly fell in July, official data showed on Friday.
In a report, Statistics Canada said that Canadian, retail sales slipped 0.1% in July, worse than the forecast for an increase of 0.1% and compared to the 0.1% decline in the prior month.
Core retail sales, excluding automobiles, also fell by a seasonally adjusted 0.1%, after a 0.6% drop the preceding month that was revised from the original decline of 0.8%.
Analysts had expected Canadian core retail sales to rise 0.5% in July.
After the report, which was released simultaneously with inflation data, USD/CAD traded at 1.3122, compared to 1.3034 prior to the release.
